When a member of your family joins the military it can sometimes be a confusing new world to understand. This fun and interactive  workshop offers an introduction to the military and the military lifestyle. Topics will include: an overview of the Canadian Armed Forces, rank structure, acronyms and abbreviations and much more! This is an adult program for ages 19yrs+.  Parents of members, partners/spouses of members, adult children, and friends of members are welcome to attend. Register here:

A relaxed, welcoming space for military-connected fathers, father figures, and their children of all ages to connect, play, and build community together. This program gives dads and kids the opportunity to spend quality time together while connecting with other military families who understand the unique experiences of military family life.

Join us for a casual all-ages family program with activities for children, youth, and families to enjoy together. The room will be filled with toys, balls, games, bikes, trikes, and other play activities, along with board games, group games, and a crafting station for older children and youth. Join us for a free community BBQ as part of Community Connection Day. Families can enjoy a meal together, spend time at the Centre, and connect with other military families in a relaxed and welcoming space. Come for the BBQ on its own, or stay between the morning and afternoon programs to make a full day of it.

Weather permitting, families are invited to join us for an afternoon of outdoor summer fun. This family-friendly program will include water play, outdoor games, bubbles, sprinklers, and other activities for children, youth, and families to enjoy together. Families should come prepared to get wet and are encouraged to bring sunscreen, towels, and a change of clothes.

Grab your swimsuit, sunscreen, and beach towel;we’re heading to McDonald Beach for a fun day in the sun!Whether you’re bringing the kids, coming with a friend, or just looking to get out of the house, join us for a beach day with other in our military community.  
MFRC staff will be bringing along games, activities, and a sweet treat to enjoy throughout the day. Whether you want to swim, play, relax on the sand, or simply spend time with others, there will be something for everyone! 
This program is weather permitting, and an alternative plan will be made if needed.

Free parking is available and may fill up quickly, additional parking is available at the H&R MFRC, Shearwater Fitness, Sports & Recreation Centre and the Shearwater Flyers Arena. Des places de stationnement gratuites sont disponibles et peuvent se remplir rapidement. Morale mail is an important way for families to stay connected during deployment, and we know it is not always easy to drop off packages during regular business hours. During Community Connection Day on Saturday July 11th , families can stop by the H&R MFRC, Halifax Site anytime between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to drop off morale mail packages.

Families are also welcome to stay and take part in any Community Connection Day programs they have registered for.

Do you have children preparing for a Reunion with a deployed parent or loved one? Are they prepared for the joys and challenges of reintegrating with their deployed parent/loved one? During this workshop, we will share helpful strategies and tools for caregivers to support children as they manage the upcoming reunion, and reconnection with their returning loved one.

It's almost HOMECOMING!! Which means it's a time to get creative. We'll supply the poster board, stickers, markers, and homecoming saying ideas. We'll have refreshments & pizza while we get creative! The Occasional and Respite Child Care program is designed specifically to support the unique needs of military families by offering flexible, short-term childcare care in a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment. This program provides peace of mind knowing their children are in the hands of experienced educators who understand and value the military lifestyle.

Children in our care will engage in a variety of age-appropriate and stimulating activities including arts and crafts, music and movement, outdoor exploration, and imaginative play. These activities promote creativity, physical development, and social-emotional growth, all while having fun in a supportive setting.

Our dedicated educators foster strong, positive relationships with each child, helping them feel a true sense of belonging. By interacting with peers from other military families, children build friendships and develop confidence, communication skills, and emotional resilience.

Through this program, children not only reach important developmental milestones but also experience a consistent, caring environment that celebrates who they are and where they come from.

Whether you’re picking up new techniques or sharpening your skills, this fun, hands-on class at the YC is the place to be. Registration is required.

Like to write, doodle, or just get creative? Then join us at the Henderson Sweetman Youth Centre our program Scribbles & Self Journaling! Each session we’ll dive into fun prompts that mix-up writing, art, poetry, collages, or even music-inspired entries. You’ll get the chance to reflect on your own strengths, values, and personal stories while experimenting with new ways to express yourself.

Then come join friends and staff at the Henderson Sweetman Youth Centre for Smart Steps: The Comms Circle; a fun and interactive program designed for youth ages 9–13 to practice social skills, emotional regulation, and peer connections through games, group discussions, and hands-on activities. Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy based role-playing game played with 4+ people. Together with the Dungeon Master, imaginary worlds are created. Moving through the story, individual characters will form teams that explore, battle and problem solve through each adventure. Together we will gather treasure, knowledge and experience points.
