When a member of your family joins the military it can sometimes be a confusing new world to understand. This fun and interactive workshop offers an introduction to the military and the military lifestyle. Topics will include: an overview of the Canadian Armed Forces, rank structure, acronyms and abbreviations and much more! This is an adult program for ages 19yrs+. Splash & Play Afternoon

Weather permitting, families are invited to join us for an afternoon of outdoor summer fun. This family-friendly program will include water play, outdoor games, bubbles, sprinklers, and other activities for children, youth, and families to enjoy together. Families should come prepared to get wet and are encouraged to bring sunscreen, towels, and a change of clothes.

Community Connection Day is a free Saturday program for CAF and Veteran-connected families to come together, connect, play, share a meal, and enjoy time at the H&R MFRC.
Families can register for one activity, multiple activities, or the full day. Whether your family is new to the Halifax region, navigating deployment, looking to meet other military-connected families, or wanting to spend more time at the MFRC, this is a relaxed opportunity to build connection and community.
Families can enjoy family-friendly programming, connect with MFRC staff, learn more about programs and services, and take part in activities throughout the day.
Please register separately for each part of the day you plan to attend so we can plan for space, food, supplies, and staffing.

Grab your swimsuit, sunscreen, and beach towel;we’re heading to McDonald Beach for a fun day in the sun!Whether you’re bringing the kids, coming with a friend, or just looking to get out of the house, join us for a beach day with other in our military community.
MFRC staff will be bringing along games, activities, and a sweet treat to enjoy throughout the day. Whether you want to swim, play, relax on the sand, or simply spend time with others, there will be something for everyone!
This program is weather permitting, and an alternative plan will be made if needed.
Bluenose Bienvenue

An event for all Military and Veteran families to connect and welcome newly posted families to our area, with fun activities for all ages!
This event will run rain or shine. There is no cost to attend and no need to register. Free parking is available and may fill up quickly, additional parking is available at the H&R MFRC, Shearwater Fitness, Sports & Recreation Centre and the Shearwater Flyers Arena. Accessible parking is available. Please speak to one of our volunteers at the gate to request accessible parking.

Morale mail is an important way for families to stay connected during deployment, and we know it is not always easy to drop off packages during regular business hours. During Community Connection Day on Saturday July 11th , families can stop by the H&R MFRC, Halifax Site anytime between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to drop off morale mail packages.
Families are also welcome to stay and take part in any Community Connection Day programs they have registered for.

The Occasional and Respite Child Care program is designed specifically to support the unique needs of military families by offering flexible, short-term childcare care in a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment. This program provides peace of mind knowing their children are in the hands of experienced educators who understand and value the military lifestyle.
Children in our care will engage in a variety of age-appropriate and stimulating activities including arts and crafts, music and movement, outdoor exploration, and imaginative play. These activities promote creativity, physical development, and social-emotional growth, all while having fun in a supportive setting.
Our dedicated educators foster strong, positive relationships with each child, helping them feel a true sense of belonging. By interacting with peers from other military families, children build friendships and develop confidence, communication skills, and emotional resilience.
Through this program, children not only reach important developmental milestones but also experience a consistent, caring environment that celebrates who they are and where they come from.

You're now at an age were becoming independent is cool and wouldn't it be great to learn some of these skills while you are home alone? Join us for our interactive program to learn some of these types of life skills, including stove safety, basic first aid and much more so you can show your parents how responsible you really are!
